4. Besides the run, what kind of activities and experiences will families enjoy?
The run is just one part of the experience. Families can look forward to playful movement stations, creative workshops, beach games, and moments designed to spark laughter and connection. There will also be a big raffle, jumping castles, areas to relax, great food, and plenty of opportunities to meet other families and simply enjoy being together—barefoot, salty, and happy.
5. What message do you hope parents and kids take away after experiencing DADATHLON?
I hope families leave feeling that together is enough. That movement doesn’t have to be serious to be meaningful, and that presence always beats perfection. For kids, I want them to feel seen, capable, and proud. For parents, I hope it’s a reminder that showing up—fully, playfully, and with intention—is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children.
1. What is DADATHLON, and what is the main idea behind this family event?
DADATHLON is a family-first movement event created by us at the non-profit, DaddyHood. At its core, it’s about getting especially fathers and kids moving together—not to compete, but to connect. It’s a playful, inclusive run combined with a festival full of activities and workshops that celebrate teamwork, encouragement, and presence.
The idea came from the simple observation that there are very few events specifically created for fathers. With DADATHLON, our goal is to create stronger bonds, lasting memories, and healthy habits for life—starting through movement and shared experiences.
2. Why was Cerritos Beach chosen as the location for DADATHLON?
Cerritos Beach is a perfect match for what DADATHLON stands for. It’s raw, beautiful, and open—just like childhood should be. The ocean and the beach create a natural playground that invites freedom, curiosity, and adventure.
Big Fun, the venue hosting us, is also a very family-friendly restaurant with great spaces for kids to play and explore. We wanted a place that encourages families to slow down, breathe, and be fully present together—and Cerritos does exactly that. We held Dadathlons over 12 times in 6 other countries, and this is my favourite location for it.
3. Who can participate, and what makes this run different from other races?
The DADATHLON run is primarily designed for fathers or other male role models to participate together with their kids. The festival itself is open to everyone, and we also offer special workshops for moms.
Of course, women and mothers who want to join the run are very welcome. But what makes this event special is the opportunity it creates for fathers and male role models to truly show up and be fully present with their children. One of our main goals is to encourage fathers to be more engaged in everyday life, and moving or doing sports together is a powerful way to build that connection.
There are no age limits, no timing chips, and no podiums. The experience matters more than the result. Kids set the pace, parents follow, and the goal is shared smiles—not finish times. It’s about participation over performance.
